Today we took a four hour train to Kalmar Sweden. We spent the afternoon exploring the town. We took out kayaks and paddled in the canals and around a castle.

In the evening we took an hour long bus ride to Oskarshamn. Our ferry to Gotland leaves from Oskarshamn tomorrow. We are a little bit in the middle of nowhere but we are getting the feel for a tiny Swedish town!
Loving my trip with you! Your last comment made me think about visiting small towns vs big cities. At your age, the cities should be more appealing…excitement, culture, food, etc. But, from the time Poppy and I started our destination Europe trips, I LOVED the small villages. To me they felt more authentic and very romantic; occasionally challenging when there was a language barrier. Like the time we were hiking in the Spanish Pyrenees and I was hysterical because of a bat flying in our room. I took my Spanish/English dictionary to the reception desk and pointed to the word. Would you believe, someone came up with something that looked like a baseball bat.
Enjoy tomorrow. Hugs to all. Ruthabaga
